And then there was the emotional - Debbie held a retrospective for Hillman Curtis, who passed away this year. The filmmaker and Debbie worked very closely together for years on a number of beautiful interviews. One piece that was not shown at the retrospective is this gem, with Massimo Vignelli:

Then there was the custom designed- Debbie collaborated with Bigstock and created a special design for their Designer series notebook.

Sterling’s DMI Night Out

Tuesday, June 5th, 2012

Recently, Sterling and IBM hosted the Design Management Institute members of NYC in a great discussion on how design can educate, inform and improve our world.  The event, DMI Night Out happened simultaneously with 12 other cities around the world.

Design pals Debbie Millman, Bill O’Connor and Pamela DeCesare

Pratt-Students-alumStudents from Pratt Institute attended reception and presentation.

Part of the presentation included a great follow-up on the IBM Think installation in 2011,  consisting of a humongous and immersive, LCD wall center designed for interaction and further learning:

And the evening concluded with a fantastic set of short films presented by Eames Demetrios, grandson of famous designers, Charles and Ray Eames. The work of the Eames’ was truly special as it was always entertaining, but taught very valuable lesions in visual thinking and problem solving.

We’re very grateful to be a part of the DMI organization, which hosts a number of educational, networking events throughout the year, culminating in the annual conference in NYC this October 23rd- 25th. We’re happy to say that Sterling’s Pamela DeCesare will co-chair the conference, and we’ll be updating everyone on the theme, scope and events taking place- so stay tuned!
